So, hats. Love ’em, which may well be apparent on this blog. I have issues with sunglasses, I am pretty unaware of my surroundings at any given point (for example, I will never notice someone on the street unless they shout my name or actually physically walk up and shake me – no, long sighted actually) , so when I wear sunglasses I feel even less aware. I usually have headphones on too which further impairs my awareness. So apart from feeling my way around town, I have to sacrifice one or the other; sunglasses or headphones… So, because I wear my sunglasses less than I should, I  compensate by wearing hats. Like this one. It is, I will agree, straddling that fine line between fancy dress and well, “normal” attire, but I think that’s why I like it.

Talk about a grey day. Nothing like an abstract Rhododendron print to brighten up the place.  It’s actually a bit twee for me. Even with the hem shortened and the arms lopped off. The hat, shoes and elasticated belt make it a little less girly I guess. No idea why the hat is off on the second photograph, I blame pixies.

Hat’s seen to be a bit of a contentious issue. People always seem to stare when you wear them which is slightly odd. And Trilby’s are mainly the reserve of old men in trench coats and jazz musicians. If anything could persuade me to wear one more often, it’s that! This one’s vintage and was given to me by a really good mate. It has seen quite a lot, by all accounts, I kind of wish it could write this blog post. It would make a far more interesting read than old men and jazz musicians that’s for sure.

Blue sky = flip flops out. I spent a year in Australia and learned very quickly that  no other footwear comes close to the humble ‘thong’ as they call it. What’s great about them is if you take them off it doesn’t feel  awkward and bare feet is the best feeling. On fresh cut grass, the beach, the back yard; the shoes should be off if the weather’s warm. The book, by the way is about the Rolling Stones and the ‘blanket’ is actually a vintage leather jacket; you gotta if you want to sit on the grass.
